Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY
Operate spray painting and sandblasting equipment to apply protective coatings and paints to fabricated structural steel material.
DESIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND/OR SKILLS
High school diploma/GED equivalent Valid driver's license Written and verbal communication skills Experience in an industrial painting environment Experience working with or removing heavy metals a plus Knowledge of methods and techniques related to painting in specialized areas and work environments Knowledge of methods and techniques related to the safe use, storage and disposal of paint and cleaning products and chemicals, and safe cleanup techniques and practices
DUTIES:
Perform a variety of routine and preventive maintenance painting duties, such as high steel and structural steel painting, and sand blasting. Operate equipment to clean, wash, strip, sand, remove corrosion, fill dents or otherwise prepare fabricated steel items for application of paint and or other protective coatings Correct work as directed, repair nicks, scratches or other small imperfections in the finish. Operate spray or flow coating equipment or other painting or product coating equipment as required. Clean and maintain painting and coating, ventilation, compressed air and personal protective equipment. Prepare and apply stencils, computer generated decals and barcodes on the finished products. Remove dirt, paint, grease, and other built-up material from surfaces. Set up and operate a blast booth or similar equipment. Load and unload the blast cabinet. Assist with painting or coating as needed. Apply and remove non-skid materials as needed.

Adhere to all Southland Industrial Coatings safety Rules, policies, and procedures Maintain orderly and clean work area Attend all required safety meetings Must inspect tools and equipment daily before each use Wear personal protective equipment in accordance with policy and adequate for specific tasks, including fire/flame resistant clothing
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The following physical requirements are necessary: Ability to stand for long periods of time Ability to occasionally pull, push, carry, or lift tools, equipment or materials 50 lbs. or less Ability to withstand occasional bending, reaching, squatting, or crouching Ability to frequently handle (hold, seize, grasp, turn, etc.) tools, equipment, or material Ability to work in inclement weather conditions, to include cold, heat, and humidity
