Paint Prep Technician - V&J Auto Body (Lindenhurst, NY) V&J Auto Body is a high-production, OEM-certified collision center serving Long Island for over 40 years. We specialize in manufacturer-level repairs, advanced technology, and a concierge customer experience. We are hiring a Paint Prep Technician who can produce clean, consistent work at speed. This role directly impacts paint quality. If prep is off, the job is wrong. No shortcuts. Role Summary You are responsible for preparing vehicles for primer and paint to OEM standards. This includes sanding, masking, cleaning, and properly staging vehicles for the paint department. You will operate within a structured production environment . Core Responsibilities Sand, feather, and prep panels for primer and refinish Clean and degrease all surfaces prior to paint Mask vehicles efficiently with clean lines. No rework Maintain production flow into paint. No bottlenecks Update job status in BSC throughout the process Communicate with body techs, painters, and QC on job readiness Identify and flag issues early (bodywork quality, contamination, missed damage) Maintain a clean, organized prep and staging area Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements Required Skills (Non-Negotiable) Scuffing new, undamaged panels for paint (correct abrasives, no burn-throughs) Sanding primed panels for paint (finish sanding only, not blocking bodywork) Sanding blend panels correctly for proper color transition Masking and taping vehicles for the booth with clean, tight edges Performing final clean in the booth (tack, degrease, contamination control) Blocking primer and bodywork to proper level and finish Proper use and care of all prep tools, materials, and equipment What We Expect 3+ years paint prep experience preferred Strong understanding of prep processes and paint department workflow Ability to produce consistent, high-quality work in a production environment Detail-oriented. No shortcuts, no comebacks Team-first mindset.
