Clear Cut Consulting is looking for a mechanically and electrically inclined person to join our team as a Building Controls Technician. Previous building automation or controls experience is NOT required. We will train the right person. We're more interested in finding someone who is dependable, curious, comfortable with technology, and genuinely interested in understanding how things work. Our technicians work with commercial HVAC, refrigeration, electrical and building-control systems. The job combines hands-on field work with computers, networking, troubleshooting and problem solving. If you're the kind of person who takes things apart to understand them, notices when something doesn't look right, or enjoys figuring out why something isn't working, you may be a very good fit. What We're Looking For The right person for this position: Is mechanically and electrically inclined Is comfortable using computers and learning new software Has a basic understanding of computer networking or is capable of learning it Enjoys troubleshooting and figuring out how systems work Is curious and asks good questions Notices things that need to be done and takes appropriate action without waiting to be told every step Can adapt when plans or conditions change Is dependable and punctual Takes pride in doing a job correctly Communicates professionally with coworkers and customers Maintains a clean, neat and professional appearance Is willing and able to travel regularly We don't expect you to already know everything we work on. We do expect you to want to learn. What You'll Do You will be trained to assist with and eventually independently perform work involving: Building automation and energy-management systems Commercial HVAC and refrigeration controls Electrical and controls troubleshooting Sensors, controllers and control wiring Computer and network communications System startup, checkout and commissioning Diagnosing equipment and communication problems Verifying that systems operate correctly Identifying problems and following them through to resolution Documenting completed work and communicating findings to the team This is not an assembly-line position where someone gives you the same task every day. Every project is a little different. We want people who learn from each project and become increasingly capable of solving problems independently. Travel Travel is an important part of this position. Employees should expect approximately 20-30 travel weeks per year . For a typical travel project, technicians must be onsite at the remote location and ready to work by noon Monday and remain available through completion of the scheduled work. When the project is completed, return travel may begin Thursday. If work is completed Thursday, Friday may be used as a return travel day. Departure is determined by completion of the project and is not guaranteed for Thursday. Clear Cut pays required business-travel expenses, including: Airfare when required Hotel accommodations Private hotel room for each employee Required business travel expenses Travel weeks currently pay approximately $1,600 per week. There is no routine overnight/third-shift work. Compensation & Benefits New employees typically start at $800 per week while training . Once an employee demonstrates the ability to perform the position proficiently, typical compensation increases to approximately $1,000 per week . Travel weeks typically pay approximately $1,600 per week , in addition to company-paid travel expenses.

Applicants must be comfortable:

Climbing ladders exceeding 30 feet to access commercial rooftops Working on large, flat commercial roofs Working outdoors in summer heat and winter cold Working around commercial mechanical, electrical, HVAC and refrigeration equipment Using hand tools, electrical test equipment and computers in a field environment Heavy lifting and routine overnight work are not major components of this position. Because our technicians work in active retail and commercial environments and are regularly visible to our clients and their customers, professional conduct and appearance are essential parts of the job.

Requirements Applicants must:

Possess a valid driver's license Maintain an acceptable driving record Meet eligibility requirements necessary to operate company and rental vehicles during business travel Be willing and able to travel approximately 20-30 weeks per year Be dependable and punctual Be comfortable using computers and technology Be willing to continually learn new equipment, systems and technologies Be able to safely perform the physical requirements of the position Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable pre-employment screening, including a background check, drug screening and driving-record review.
