This position involves providing technical support, guidance, and monitoring to ensure the safe performance of various work assignments involving radioactive materials and radiation sources. The technician is responsible for operating a range of radiation detection instruments, managing Radiation Work Permits (RWPs), and maintaining compliance with safety protocols to protect personnel and the environment. Responsibilities Provide technical support, guidance, and monitoring in radiation protection to assist personnel in safely executing their work assignments. Check in and operate standard radiation detectors, including large-area gas-flow proportional detectors, count-rate meters, dose rate meters, electronic dosimeters, swipe counters, liquid scintillation counters, gamma spectroscopy detectors, and other relevant instrumentation. Write, enforce, and provide coverage for Radiation Work Permits (RWPs) to ensure proper authorization and safety measures are followed during radiological activities. Perform routine calibration, maintenance, and documentation of radiation detection equipment to ensure accurate readings and compliance with safety standards. Monitor radiation levels in work areas continuously or as needed to detect any anomalies or potential hazards. Assist in the investigation of radiological incidents or exposures and recommend corrective actions. Maintain detailed records of measurements, inspections, and permit activities for regulatory compliance and safety audits. Experience Proven experience operating a variety of radiation detection instruments such as gas-flow proportional detectors, gamma spectroscopy detectors, dosimeters, and other radiation monitoring equipment. Knowledge of radiation safety principles, regulations, and best practices for radiological protection. Experience writing and managing Radiation Work Permits (RWPs) or similar safety documentation is preferred. Strong attention to detail with excellent documentation skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a regulated environment requiring strict adherence to safety protocols.
