Job Description

Skillforce has teamed up with one of the largest mechanical contractors in the US to find a Senior Controls System Technician. This is a full-time, direct hire position. The Senior Controls System Technician is responsible for installing, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting building automation and control systems for new construction and retrofit projects. This position serves as a technical lead in the field, coordinating installation activities, supporting project execution, and ensuring systems operate according to design specifications. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with building automation systems, strong HVAC knowledge, and the ability to mentor junior technicians while maintaining high standards for quality and safety.
Locations:
Orlando, FL area with travel to local project sites
Hourly Rate:
Up to $55 per hour, based on experience Full benefits, PTO, etc.
Senior Controls System Technician Responsibilities:
Install, configure, test, and commission building automation and controls systems for commercial and industrial facilities. Perform field startup, controller programming, network integration, and functional testing to verify proper system performance. Review project drawings, specifications, and contract documents to ensure installations align with project requirements. Coordinate daily activities with project managers, electricians, subcontractors, and customers to maintain project schedules. Provide technical leadership and guidance to field technicians, installers, and subcontractors throughout project execution. Identify and resolve system issues during installation and commissioning to ensure reliable operation before project turnover. Create and maintain accurate as-built drawings, commissioning reports, and project documentation. Assist with equipment selection, material procurement, and delivery coordination to support project timelines and budgets. Monitor project progress and communicate schedule changes, field conditions, and technical concerns to project management. Conduct customer training on system operation, navigation, and basic troubleshooting upon project completion. Attend coordination meetings and maintain strong working relationships with owners, contractors, engineers, and vendors. Ensure all work complies with applicable building codes, industry standards, and safety regulations. Support project planning by identifying labor, equipment, and resource requirements for assigned work. Mentor junior technicians by providing coaching, troubleshooting assistance, and hands-on training. Complete additional duties as assigned to support business operations.
Senior Controls System Technician Qualifications:
Minimum of eight (8) years of experience installing and servicing building automation or controls systems. Experience working with one or more major BAS platforms such as Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Trane, Tridium, Schneider Electric, or equivalent. Previous experience performing commercial HVAC service. EPA Certification. Experience on healthcare, laboratory, higher education, or other mission-critical facilities. Knowledge of networking concepts related to building automation systems. Strong understanding of HVAC equipment, control sequences, and refrigeration principles. Ability to interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and control schematics. Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose system issues efficiently. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
