Job Description

Figurative Sculptor Location Hillsdale, Michigan Open Date Sep 07, 2026 Description Hillsdale College is a small (1500 students), fiercely independentChristian liberal arts college dedicated to the perpetuation of freedom through serious learning and moral formation. It is committed to theWestern intellectual tradition and requires genuine excellence in undergraduate teaching. Applicants should familiarize themselves with theCollege's mission statement: https://www.hillsdale.edu/about/mission/ . The artdepartment has five full-time faculty and is dedicated to the teaching of traditional observational and representational skills. Thesuccessful candidate will teach all levels of sculpture and either figure drawing or artistic anatomy each semester. The candidate should befirmly committed to the Western tradition. Candidates must demonstrate a solid blend of teaching, active studio practice, and service todepartment and college. Qualifications An MFA with a concentration in sculpture is required. Application Instructions Send a letter of application that presents (a) evidence of strong undergraduateteaching skills, (b) a discussion of the philosophy behind such teaching, and (c) a detailed response to the Hillsdale College MissionStatement that includes a discussion of the candidate's ability to teach in light of the College's commitments (d) a portfolio of figurativesculpture and drawing that demonstrates a thorough knowledge and commitment to working with the human form (e) a curriculum vitae (f) threeup-to-date letters of recommendation (including current email address for these professional references) (g) graduate transcripts.
