Job Description

Watercolor Instructor — 4-
Week Course Location:
Art Cafe SLC | 9th & 9th,
Salt Lake City Position:
Contract Watercolor Instructor Compensation:
$16-$22/hour of teaching, based on experience
Schedule:
One evening per week for 4 consecutive weeks About the Role Art Cafe SLC is looking for a talented, warm, and approachable Watercolor Instructor to lead a beginner-friendly 4-week watercolor course. We're looking for someone who loves watercolor and is excited to share that creativity with others. Our classes are designed to feel welcoming, social, creative, and low-pressure —a place where students can learn foundational skills without feeling like they need to already be an "artist." Over the four-week course, you'll introduce students to watercolor techniques, help them become comfortable with the medium, and guide them through projects that allow them to practice their skills and develop their own creative style. What You'll Teach The instructor will develop and lead a progressive 4-week curriculum introducing students to the foundations of watercolor painting.
Topics may include:
Watercolor materials and how to use them Water and pigment control Basic brush techniques and mark-making Color theory and color mixing Creating washes, gradients, and layers Wet-on-wet vs. wet-on-dry techniques Creating texture, depth, light, and shadow Basic composition Developing a finished watercolor piece Each week should build naturally on the previous lesson while giving students plenty of opportunity to experiment and develop confidence with the medium. Responsibilities As the instructor, you'll lead demonstrations and provide clear, approachable instruction throughout each class; offer individual guidance and encouragement; help students with different experience levels feel comfortable and successful; communicate material and supply needs in advance; and help create the warm, inclusive atmosphere that Art Cafe is known for. You'll also assist with reasonable setup and cleanup associated with your class. Art Cafe will handle registration, marketing, customer communication, and overall class logistics so that you can focus primarily on teaching and creating a meaningful experience for your students. Who We're Looking For We're looking for someone with a strong understanding of watercolor painting techniques and materials who feels comfortable sharing those skills with beginners. Previous teaching experience is a plus, but isn't necessarily required. We're also interested in experienced watercolor artists who are patient, personable, dependable, and excited about introducing others to their craft. The ideal instructor is someone who can explain techniques simply, encourage experimentation, and help students feel proud of what they're creating rather than focused on making something "perfect." Most importantly, we want someone who shares one of the core beliefs behind
