Wire Harness Technician Job Description The Wire Harness Technician builds complex wire harnesses directly from prints and blueprints, using full-size layouts on angled build boards. In this role, you work from pre-assembled kits containing wires, terminals, connectors, and other components, and assemble harnesses with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. You work independently from detailed prints while collaborating closely with a small team when questions arise or support is needed. Responsibilities Read and interpret wire harness prints, blueprints, schematics, and assembly drawings with a high degree of accuracy. Build wire harnesses according to print specifications, ensuring all requirements are met. Lay out and route wires in the correct locations on the harness build board, nail board, or similar fixtures. Install and connect terminals, connectors, and other harness components as specified in the wiring diagrams. Verify the proper placement, orientation, and alignment of all components throughout the assembly process. Perform detailed electrical and mechanical assembly work while maintaining precision and consistency. Assist with wire preparation processes, including cutting wires to length, stripping insulation, crimping and hand crimping terminals, pressing terminals, and labeling wires. Prepare components and wires for harness kits to support efficient production and assembly workflows. Follow build-to-print and production assembly procedures to meet quality and productivity standards. Work primarily in a standing position at harness build boards, maintaining focus on detailed tasks for extended periods. Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safe and efficient manufacturing operations. Collaborate with team members to resolve questions about prints, diagrams, or assembly steps and to continuously improve processes. Essential Skills Proven ability to read and interpret prints and blueprints and to build or assemble products directly from these documents. Experience working in a detail-oriented assembly environment where accuracy and adherence to specifications are critical. Strong blueprint, print, and schematic reading skills, including familiarity with electrical prints and assembly drawings. Hands-on experience with wiring, wire routing, and working with terminals, connectors, and electrical components. Ability to perform precise crimping, hand crimping, wire stripping, wire cutting, and terminal installation tasks. Comfort working primarily in a standing position at harness build boards or similar assembly stations. Attention to detail and ability to follow build-to-print instructions without constant supervision. Capability to verify component placement and orientation and to perform quality checks during assembly. Additional Skills & Qualifications Wire harness assembly or wire harness technician experience is strongly preferred. Experience in electrical assembly, electrical/mechanical assembly, cable assembly, connector assembly, or similar manufacturing assembly roles. Experience with production assembly and manufacturing assembly environments that require building directly from prints or diagrams. Familiarity with wiring diagrams, harness boards, nail boards, build boards, and wire prep processes. Ability to work effectively as part of a small team while remaining comfortable working independently from prints. Strong manual dexterity and comfort performing repetitive, detailed tasks with consistent quality. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $28.00/hr.
