About the company Burton James, recognized for its high-quality custom seating and home furnishings, is a privately owned, founder-led company with a fast-paced, entrepreneurial culture. We design, sell, and distribute luxury custom seating to interior designers and boutique/luxury retailers around the world. About the Role Burton James is seeking a skilled Finisher to support our wood finishing team. This role involves preparing and finishing wood components for custom furniture, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail. The ideal candidate has hands-on finishing experience and takes pride in producing consistent, high-quality results. Core Responsibilities Prepare wood surfaces through sanding, filling, and other prep processes prior to finishing Mix and apply stains, glazes, sealers, and topcoats to achieve the required finish appearance and durability Perform specialty finish techniques as needed, including wire-brushed textures, layered stains, cerused finishes, and other hand-applied details Maintain consistency of color, sheen, and overall appearance across all components Follow finish schedules and daily priorities as assigned by the department lead Perform touch-ups and corrections as needed to meet finish standards Assist with installing finished bases, legs, and other wood components as required Identify finish defects or inconsistencies and promptly communicate concerns to department lead or area supervisor Additional Expectations Be punctual and dependable; provide advance notice of schedule conflicts or absences Demonstrate a willingness to learn new techniques and improve skills over time Maintain a clean, organized workstation; care for tools and spray booth to ensure longevity; and follow all safety protocols What we can do for you: Play a pivotal role in our company's transformation and growth Align with a growing company that operates in the luxury market Provide training and career development opportunities Enjoy a high-paced and collaborative work environment Eligible for up to a 6% employer 401(k) contribution following six months of employment Take advantage of paid time off away from work, including scheduled company holidays Participate in competitive benefits and incentivizing programs Team building company sponsored events Employee discount and bi-annual sample saleRequirements:
2-5 years of experience in wood finishing, ideally in high-end or custom furniture production Experience with surface preparation and working with a range of finish types, including stains, paints, and lacquered topcoats Strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship Ability to work efficiently and independently while communicating clearly and working well as part of a team Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly preferred but not requiredPhysical Requirements:
