A Finisher, Polisher, or Buffer cleans, sands and polishes materials such as wood, stone, plastic, or metal used in manufacturing processes. Performs finishing and polishing done at the final stages of production to prepare goods for consumers.
The Metal Polisher is responsible for finishing and polishing metal parts using a powered spinning polishing wheel and related tools. This role ensures all metal surfaces meet company quality standards for smoothness, appearance, and finish before assembly or shipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate spinning polishing wheels, buffers, and other finishing equipment safely and efficiently. Polish, buff, and finish metal parts to remove scratches, burrs, weld marks, and surface defects. Apply compounds, rouges, or abrasives as required for desired finish. Inspect and measure completed work to ensure it meets quality and customer specifications. Follow all safety procedures, including use of protective equipment (gloves, masks, shields, etc.). Maintain polishing equipment and keep work area clean and organized. Identify and report defects or inconsistencies in raw materials or finished parts. Work closely with production team to meet schedules and deadlines.
Qualifications & Skills:
Previous experience in metal polishing, buffing, or finishing preferred (training may be provided). Ability to work with polishing compounds, abrasives, and various metals (aluminum, stainless steel, brass, etc.). Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finishes. Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift parts (up to [insert weight limit, e.g., 50 lbs]), and apply consistent pressure against a spinning wheel. Knowledge of shop safety practices and safe handling of rotating machinery.
Work Environment:
Industrial shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, and polishing compounds. Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
