Job Summary We are seeking an Agronomist/Nutrient Management Specialist to oversee soil sampling, nutrient-management planning, and relationships with local farmers and landowners. This is a field-based position responsible for evaluating soil conditions, reviewing sampling results, making sound nutrient-management recommendations, and identifying additional agricultural fields suitable for land application. The Agronomist will work directly with farmers and landowners to explain the program, answer questions, coordinate field participation, and develop long-term working relationships. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently in the field, communicating with farmers, managing multiple properties, and maintaining accurate records. We are open to candidates with education or experience in agronomy, soil science, crop production, nutrient management, agriculture, or a closely related field. Responsibilities Collect soil samples from agricultural fields and coordinate laboratory testing. Review and interpret soil-test results. Develop and maintain soil and nutrient-management plans. Monitor soil conditions, crop needs, application rates, and field suitability. Work directly with farmers and landowners to discuss soil health, nutrient needs, field conditions, and land-application opportunities. Identify and establish relationships with additional farmers and landowners interested in participating in the program. Evaluate potential fields to determine whether they meet operational and program requirements. Coordinate field availability and application schedules with farmers, landowners, and internal operations. Maintain accurate records of soil samples, laboratory results, field information, nutrient applications, and communications. Use maps, field data, and available technology to manage participating acreage. Help ensure soil- and nutrient-management activities follow applicable plans, permits, and regulatory requirements. Monitor participating fields and provide practical recommendations based on soil conditions, crop needs, and test results. Serve as a knowledgeable and responsive point of contact for participating farmers and landowners. Qualifications Education or experience in agronomy, soil science, crop science, agriculture, nutrient management, environmental science, or a related area. Knowledge of soil sampling, soil fertility, crop nutrient needs, and nutrient-management practices. Ability to interpret soil-test results and translate the information into practical recommendations. Strong communication and relationship-building skills. Comfortable approaching and speaking with farmers and landowners about program participation. Ability to work independently and manage multiple fields, properties, and priorities. Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills. Ability to spend a significant amount of time traveling locally and working outdoors in varying field and weather conditions. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working directly with farmers, growers, or landowners. Experience developing nutrient-management plans or coordinating land-application activities. Familiarity with agricultural mapping, GPS, GIS, or field-management software. Knowledge of applicable environmental and agricultural regulations. Certified Crop Adviser certification or the ability and willingness to obtain certification.
