THE POSITION
The Corrections Food Service Instructor position with the Department of Corrections (DOC) offers an exciting chance to use your culinary knowledge and leadership skills at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette. This role allows you to guide inmate workers through hands-on training that strengthens daily food service operations. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position provides instruction and oversight in food preparation, production, and service to support the safe and efficient operation of kitchen areas at SCI Fayette. The role ensures compliance with sanitation rules, safety standards, and established procedures for food service operations. As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will perform the following duties:
Food Instruction:
Teach inmates food preparation, production, service, baking, and safe use of kitchen tools and equipment
Sanitation Oversight:
Inspect kitchen areas, equipment, and food items to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards
Kitchen Management:
Review census and menu data, adjust recipes, recycle leftovers, and oversee storage of food and supplies using first-in, first-out procedures
Work Coordination:
Plan and review work assignments, complete evaluations, maintain records, and ensure care, custody, and control of inmates
Operational Support:
Requisition supplies, maintain inventory, and perform related duties to support daily food service functions Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
Work hours are 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Your work days and pass days will be determined based on bidding and seniority.
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary:
In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
