Band Saw Operator

Shift:

3rd Shift (10:00 PM

•6:30 AM)

Training Requirement:

Must be available to train on 1st Shift (6:00 AM

•2:30 PM)

Santa Fe Springs, CA Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and dependable Band Saw Operator to join our machine shop team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately cutting metal stock and raw materials to specified dimensions using horizontal and/or vertical band saws. The ideal candidate will have experience working with metals, reading blueprints, and using precision measuring tools to ensure quality and accuracy. This position plays a critical role in supporting machining and fabrication operations through efficient material preparation and safe work practices. Key Responsibilities Machine Operation Set up and operate horizontal and/or vertical band saws to cut metal materials, including steel, aluminum, and other alloys. Read and interpret job travelers, blueprints, cut lists, and mechanical drawings to determine cutting requirements. Select the appropriate saw blades based on material type, thickness, and cutting specifications. Monitor saw performance and make adjustments to feed rates, blade tension, and cutting angles as needed. Ensure all cuts meet dimensional tolerances and quality standards. Quality Control Measure and mark materials using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other precision measuring instruments. Inspect finished cuts for accuracy and quality. Identify and report material defects, variances, or equipment malfunctions. Maintain accurate production records as required. Maintenance & Safety Perform routine machine inspections and basic preventative maintenance, including blade changes, lubrication, and cleaning. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Follow all company safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times. Support continuous improvement efforts to enhance productivity and quality. Material Handling Assist with loading and unloading raw materials and finished products. Move materials throughout the shop using appropriate equipment and procedures. Organize inventory and maintain proper material storage practices. Qualifications Previous experience operating band saws in a manufacturing, machine shop, or metal fabrication environment preferred. Ability to read blueprints, work orders, and mechanical drawings. Proficient with precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods. Reliable attendance and strong work ethic. Must be available to train on 1st Shift before transitioning to 3rd Shift.
