Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented 2nd Shift Finishing and Deburring Operator to join our manufacturing team. This role is responsible for the final preparation, deburring, and surface finishing of precision machined parts (including gears, shafts, and assemblies). You will work from engineering blueprints and process sheets to remove burrs, sharp edges, and surface imperfections, ensuring all components meet strict quality and safety tolerances before final assembly or shipment.
Remove burrs, flash, sharp corners, and raised material from machined parts using hand power tools (Dremel tools, burring knives, files, scrapers, and wire wheels).
Equipment Operation:
Set up and safely operate industrial finishing machinery, including tumbling barrels, vibratory bowls, grit blasters, parts washers, and burring lathes.
Quality Inspection:
Visually inspect parts for surface defects. Use precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges) to ensure parts conform to required tolerances.
Blueprint & Documentation Literacy:
Read and interpret blueprint drawings, process routing sheets, and setup cards to determine specifications and appropriate finishing techniques.
Material Handling:
Safely transport, load, and unload heavy parts and materials into machinery or staging areas.
Cross-Functional Support:
Rotate between deburring stations, basic machine operation, and line assembly tasks based on production demands.
Safety & Cleanliness:
Maintain a clean, organized workstation (5S) and strictly adhere to all personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols.
Required Qualifications Education:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent trade school experience.
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of manufacturing, mechanical assembly, or machine shop experience. Prior hand deburring or grinding experience is highly preferred.
Technical Skills:
Ability to read blueprints and use basic precision measuring tools (calipers/micrometers). Strong mechanical aptitude.
Shift Flexibility:
Ability to work the designated 2nd shift hours consistently and accommodate overtime or weekend shifts as production schedules require. Physical Demands Must be able to stand and walk for the duration of a full 8-to-10-hour shift. Frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling of parts weighing up to 50 lbs. Requires excellent manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and close-up visual acuity to inspect small, detailed parts.
