Role Description The Lead Machinist is a full-time, on-site role based at Losch Machine, Inc. in Daphne, AL. This role oversees day-to-day machining operations, including setting up and operating CNC turning and milling equipment, verifying dimensions and tolerances, and ensuring parts meet customer specifications and quality standards. The Lead Machinist guides and supports machinists and operators on the shop floor, assigns work, monitors production schedules, and coordinates with supervisors to maintain throughput and on-time delivery. Responsibilities include reading and interpreting engineering drawings, selecting appropriate tooling and fixtures, optimizing and creating machine programs, and troubleshooting machining issues. The Lead Machinist also helps maintain a safe, organized workspace, ensures proper documentation and material traceability, and participates in continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency and precision. Qualifications Strong CNC machining skills, including setup, operation, and adjustment of CNC lathes and mills, with expertise in close-tolerance work. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications, including GD&T and measurement standards. Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges) and inspection methods to verify part conformity. Experience leading or mentoring machinists or operators, coordinating workloads, and supporting a team-oriented shop environment. Knowledge of tooling selection, fixture design, feeds and speeds, and process optimization for various steels and alloys. Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality systems, including documentation, material traceability, and adherence to procedures. Solid understanding of shop safety practices, housekeeping standards, and safe handling of materials and equipment. Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with production, engineering, and quality personnel. High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certificate or apprenticeship in machining or manufacturing technology preferred Extensive experience operating HAAS mills and lathes
