This is an onsite role with a 12-month contract duration, operating on a 1st shift 9/80 schedule. While the primary location is Goleta, there may be occasional travel to Oxnard, estimated at 10% of the time. No security clearance is required for this position. About the Role Join our Machine Shop department to collaborate with fellow machinists, design engineers, and quality inspectors in a high-speed production environment. Utilize manual lathes, manual and CNC mills, and precision grinders to fabricate metal components, tools, and mechanisms to precise specifications. Analyze blueprints and engineering data to determine operational sequences, setup methods, and necessary cuts while utilizing precision measuring tools to ensure accuracy. Operate various equipment, including those that are numerically controlled. Possess a background that includes a formal apprenticeship or an equivalent combination of training and professional experience. Your Responsibilities Configure and manage various machine tools, including manual and CNC mills, lathes, and grinders, to produce parts that meet exact dimensional requirements. Ensure high product quality by conducting thorough in-process and final inspections using precision measuring instruments. Perform standard shop calculations to determine appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for specific projects. Maintain equipment in optimal working condition through regular care and upkeep. Ensure that all necessary materials and tooling are prepared and ready for production tasks. Help maintain a safe and organized workspace to support overall team safety. Support team development by providing training to colleagues on the setup, operation, and maintenance of mill and lathe equipment. Foster effective collaboration across the organization through strong interpersonal communication skills. Apply a high level of precision and attention to detail to every task. Effectively manage your workload by prioritizing essential tasks. Utilize strong time management skills to meet production deadlines. Required Qualifications Demonstrated familiarity with CNC milling equipment and programming software such as CAMworks or Mastercam. Proven experience in the setup and operation of manual machinery. Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical specifications, production diagrams, and assembly drawings in English. Experience executing unique setups and following detailed written instructions. Background in fabricating components where setups are non-routine and maintaining tight tolerances is critical. Physical ability to remain in a standing position for extended durations. Expertise in advanced shop math and complex measurements regarding feeds, speeds, tooling, and tolerances. Strong commitment to accuracy and meticulous attention to detail. Minimum of three years of professional machining experience. Physical capacity to lift or move 35 to 50 lbs consistently throughout a 12-hour shift, including occasional pushing or pulling. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience working with HAAS and Fanuc controllers. Four or more years of experience operating 3-axis CNC machines, with 4 and 5-axis experience considered a significant advantage. Demonstrated proficiency in CAM programming, specifically using Mastercam.
