Job Title:
CNC Machinist Job Description This role focuses on independently setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes to machine parts that conform to detailed blueprints and drawings. You will work on a variety of CNC equipment, ensure parts meet exact specifications, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts in a clean, organized machine shop environment on a second-shift schedule. Responsibilities Independently set up and operate CNC machines, including CNC mills and CNC lathes. Machine parts to precise blueprint and drawing specifications, ensuring dimensional accuracy and quality. Operate assigned machines while consistently maintaining blueprint tolerances and production standards. Load, run, and edit CNC programs as needed to support production requirements. Perform initial inspections on parts when required to verify conformance to specifications. Conduct stability studies on gauges used to ensure measurement reliability and repeatability. Use all relevant measurement equipment to inspect and verify part quality. Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and process issues to minimize downtime and improve performance. Assist CNC Operators I and II with setups, troubleshooting, and operational guidance as needed. Support process improvement activities, including the use of tools such as Design of Experiments (DOE). Efficiently manage workflow within a work cell structure to meet productivity and scheduling goals. Follow written and verbal instructions provided in English accurately and promptly. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times. Comply with all safety and sanitation regulations and company policies. Use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as instructed. Collaborate effectively as part of a team, sharing information and supporting coworkers. Perform other machining and grinding duties as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned by leadership to support production and operational needs. Essential Skills Demonstrated ability to set up and troubleshoot CNC machines independently. Ability to set up at least one type of CNC machine and operate it while maintaining blueprint specifications. Strong understanding of machining fundamentals and practices for both new and existing parts. Ability to develop and improve machining processes on new or existing parts. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints thoroughly. Ability to use all relevant measurement equipment for inspection and quality verification. Ability to meet established quality and productivity standards in a production environment. Ability to efficiently manage workflow in a work cell structure. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions given in English. Intermediate computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a manufacturing environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience with CNC mills and CNC lathes. Experience with blueprint reading for machining applications. Familiarity with process improvement tools such as Design of Experiments (DOE). Comfort working closely with manufacturing engineers and other technical staff. Willingness to learn, participate in training, and develop new skills. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support multiple tasks as needed. Why Work Here? Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Libertyville, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
