Job Description
Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Lathe Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining various types of lathes to produce precision metal components according to detailed specifications. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, proficiency in manual lathe machining. Responsibilities Operate manual and lathe machines. Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) specifications to ensure precise machining. Utilize measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines for quality control and measurement verification. Calibration, and tooling changes efficiently to meet production schedules. Conduct precision machining operations using various tools including grinders, hand tools, power tools, and tooling fixtures. Inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy and surface finish quality; document inspection results accurately. Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols related to machine operation, welding, and material handling. Support lean manufacturing initiatives by identifying waste reduction opportunities and implementing best practices. Qualifications Proven experience operating both manual lathes and lathe machines in a manufacturing setting. Strong understanding of blueprint reading, mechanical blueprint interpretation, GD&T standards, and measurement techniques. Knowledge of machining tools including grinders, milling machines, and other metalworking equipment. Mechanical aptitude with the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately. Basic math skills for measurements, calculations related to machining tolerances, and process adjustments. Ability to operate measurement instruments like calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines for quality assurance. Experience in manufacturing environments emphasizing precision measurement in machining processes. Knowledge of safety procedures related to machine operation. Strong communication skills coupled with a proactive approach toward continuous learning and process improvement.
