Job Job Description Location:
East Chicago, IN Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for a Machinist at our East Chicago, Indiana operation. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, quality-driven, and experienced in producing precision parts to print while supporting on-time delivery and continuous improvement. The role will be part of our United Steelworkers (USW) union compensation, benefits, and pension agreement.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Set up and operate CNC and/or manual machines (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.) to produce parts per specifications. Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and work instructions. Fit and assemble machined parts and dismantle mill maintenance equipment. Operate pendant, remote crane, and lift truck as necessary. Performs any layout work of parts as required. Calculates and determines dimensions, tapers, indices, and other data using shop formulas and handbooks. Measure and inspect parts using precision instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators). Troubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency. Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean, organized work area. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
4 years of proven machinist experience in a job shop or high-mix/low-volume manufacturing environment. Ability to read blueprints. Have earned a high school diploma, GED, or equivalency from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications:
Have a machinist certificate or card. Strong measurement skills; GD&T. Experience with CNC controls (Haas, Mazak).
