Organization Gas Services Business Unit Central Full / Part time Full-time Experience Level Professional / Experienced A Snapshot of Your Day As a CNC Horizontal Lathe Machinist, you will manufacture large generator rotor shafts used in the power generation industry, with components reaching up to 46 feet in length and weighing as much as 275 tons. Your day will involve setting up and operating large-scale CNC lathes, aligning rotor forgings, interpreting engineering drawings and work instructions, and performing precision machining operations to strict quality requirements. You will collaborate closely with technical support teams and fellow machinists across multiple shifts, ensuring work is accurately documented and communicated throughout the manufacturing process. Success in this role requires strong machining expertise, attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and a continuous improvement mindset. How You'll Make an Impact
• Set up, align, and operate large-scale CNC horizontal lathes to semi-finish and finish machine generator rotor shafts weighing up to 275 tons. Interpret engineering drawings, CNC programs, electronic work instructions, and quality documentation to produce components that meet exact specifications. Perform precision inspections throughout the machining process using micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and electronic measurement systems. Collaborate with crane operators and production teams to safely load, position, and machine large rotor forgings while maintaining process stability and accuracy. Support Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives through 5S practices, process optimization, and quality-focused problem solving. Mentor apprentices and team members by sharing technical expertise, maintaining production records, and contributing to the development of best practices. What You Bring High School Diploma or GED required; completion of a 2-year accredited machinist training program with a CNC machining focus preferred. 4+ years of CNC lathe machining experience, preferably with large-part machining and steady rest support systems; manual turning experience is a plus. Proficiency with CNC machine controls such as Siemens, Fanuc, Mazak, or similar systems, including the ability to interpret G-code and M-code programming fundamentals. Minimum 2 years of experience using precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment to verify dimensional conformance. Strong ability to interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, charts, tables, and manufacturing documentation. Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
