Job Description
Job Summary Flow Sciences, Inc. is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist II to join our manufacturing team in Leland, NC. This position is responsible for setting up, verifying programs, and operating a variety of CNC machines to produce high-quality precision components. The CNC Machinist II will verify tooling strategies and machine programs, monitor machining operations, perform in-process inspections, and troubleshoot machining and process issues. This role requires an experienced machinist who can work with minimal supervision, maintain close tolerances, and provide technical guidance and support to less experienced team members. Duties Set up and operate a variety of CNC machine tools using programs and tooling generated from CAD/CAM systems. Load, verify, and adjust tooling, fixtures, and machine programs to ensure accurate machining operations. Run production jobs while maintaining precise tolerances and established quality standards. Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, and other precision measuring equipment. Document inspection results and maintain accurate production and quality records. Monitor tooling performance and replace or adjust tooling as needed to maintain quality and productivity. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, and GD&T. Troubleshoot machine, tooling, programming, and process issues to minimize downtime. Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Partner with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Production teams to improve machining processes. Support process optimization, setup reduction, productivity improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives. Follow all company safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures. Train, coach, and mentor less experienced machinists and machine operators. May serve as a lead machinist by coordinating workflow and providing technical support to the machining team. Skills Experience with industrial painting techniques including auto painting and auto body repair Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and fabrication processes Knowledge of machining, materials handling, and the use of precision measuring instruments Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and warehouse operations Ability to operate forklifts and pallet jacks safely in a manufacturing environment Basic math skills for measurements and process calculations Experience with construction or industrial painting is a plus Ability to work with various assembly processes and use of hand tools for fabrication tasks Previous experience in manufacturing settings such as warehouse environments is advantageous Qualifications Education High school diploma or GED required. Technical school diploma, certificate, or completion of an accredited machining or skilled trades program preferred. Experience 4-6 years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience setting up and operating CNC machining centers, mills, and/or lathes. Experience working with CAD/CAM-generated machining programs. Experience machining precision components to close tolerances. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes, machine setup, tooling, and production operations. Proficiency with Mastercam and various CNC machine controls. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T. Proficiency with precision measuring and inspection equipment. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to identify and resolve complex machining and process issues. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality. Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills. Ability to work independently while supporting production schedules and team objectives. Ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced employees.
