Imagine this:
a new order drops with demanding GD&T callouts. You pull the correct program for a Star Swiss lathe, kit the tooling, update the fixturing, and set offsets. Your internal first article passes QA because you anticipated tool wear, made smart adjustments, and verified every feature with the right gage. If this sounds like your kind of challenge, read on. Your mission Transform engineering intent into finished components that meet customer specifications by executing precise Swiss setups, running production efficiently, and documenting every step. Key responsibilities Set up and operate Star Swiss machines for production parts (non-CFA, FA, or SCR jobs) with medium complexity. Pull/load existing CNC programs and align setup with blueprint requirements. Select and install tooling, update fixturing, and establish correct tool/work offsets. Load material/parts and run to the manufacturing plan or product specs. Track tool life; replace tools proactively to maintain capability. Generate an internal first article and adjust as needed to achieve a QA-approved result. Perform in-process inspection with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pins, and other mechanical gages. Apply advanced GD&T, ensuring print, program, and setup work together to hit every callout. Deburr in-process work and maintain shop paperwork—updates, signatures, stamps, counts, labels, and nonconformance documentation. Hit standard times consistently and communicate early if a job is over or under target. Clock each operation according to the work-order sequence. Drive Lean/Continuous Improvement and 5S—from identifying waste to sustaining gains. What you bring Self-directed, professional collaboration across teams and departments. Openness to new ideas, strong communication, and a quick-learning, adaptable approach. Ability to act on verbal/written instructions and even hand-drawn sketches. Background & proficiencies 4+ years in a production or job-shop machining environment. Demonstrated experience setting up and operating Star Swiss equipment. Deep familiarity with 4- and 5-axis machining. Comfort with planning/scheduling tools; Epicor exposure is a plus. Physical demands Near vision and focus change to read dials, blueprints, and precision instruments during inspection. Ability to detect machine condition changes through sound. Frequent standing, walking, pushing, reaching overhead, and floor-level bending; regular seated work with fine hand motions. Occasional lifts/moves up to 50 lbs. Working conditions Loud manufacturing floor with moving machinery and rotating parts. Potential exposure to fumes, dust, mist, cutting fluids, and oils. Safety first Adhere to all environmental, health, and safety requirements, company policy, and safe practices. Know shop safety expectations and wear appropriate PPE.
