Job Description

Job Summary:
Machinists operate 3-axis CNC machines and conventional mills to produce parts used for electromagnets, and support cross-training of fellow machinists. Machinists complete complex setups on 3-axis machines and apply advanced blueprint and GD&T reading to complex production inspection processes. Machinists also validate new programs, edit programs, and create simple programs for tooling and fixturing.
Primary Job Duties:
Fully operate multiple machine platforms as needed, including CNC, conventional mills, and OMAX water jets Perform complex setups on various machine platforms Validate programs and first-part runs on new part orders Assist in accurate and safe machine recovery Replace broken cutting tools/inserts as needed Perform in-process inspection with various measuring devices to ensure customer-supplied dimensional tolerances and specifications Operate grinders and band saws Fill out required forms for tracking charge times to job orders and travelers for job completion Perform basic machine PMCS, such as maintaining proper coolant levels and machine lubrication
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent Technical certification in machining is a plus, but not required Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical drawings Knowledge of G-Code Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Mechanical Knowledge:
Understanding of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
Production and Processing:
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods
Mathematics:
Knowledge of trigonometry
Operation Monitoring:
Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
Quality Control Analysis:
Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
Troubleshooting:
Determining causes of operating errors and solutions Ability to work with a team Strong written and verbal communication skills User-level knowledge of Windows operating systems Basic knowledge of CAM applications Ability to obtain fork truck certification for loading large stock and fixtures into machines
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Machinists work around high-speed machine tools Exposure to moving mechanical parts May work under exposure to harmful effects such as chemicals, gases, high voltage, and excessive heat Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds Must be able to follow all safety procedures as set forth in the Safety Handbook and
