CNC Machinist
Job Description
SUMMARY We are seeking a highly experienced CNC Machinist to support precision prototype and production machining within a quality-driven manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for a hands-on machinist who can independently take a component from print or 3D model through programming, setup, machining, and in-process inspection. The position supports complex aerospace-grade components requiring tight tolerances, advanced machining strategies, and close collaboration with engineering and quality teams. This is a full-time, onsite opportunity offering strong compensation, stability, and comprehensive benefits.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Interpret detailed engineering drawings and 3D models to manufacture precision components from concept to completion Develop manufacturing process plans in partnership with engineering, including material selection, tooling strategy, and fixture design Program, edit, and troubleshoot CNC programs using Mastercam and directly at the machine (G-code/M-code) Set up and operate 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC milling centers Set up and run CNC lathes with live tooling, C-axis capability, twin turrets, twin spindles, and bar feeders Design and fabricate custom fixtures using 3D modeling tools when required Select, assemble, and install appropriate tooling for prototype and short-run production jobs Maintain tight tolerances on high-precision components Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, gauge blocks, and related equipment Coordinate with metrology for CMM validation and final quality checks Provide input to engineering teams on manufacturability and design optimization Assist with cost estimation worksheets, precision assembly, or inspection tasks as needed Maintain clear communication with project leads and cross-functional team members Set up and break down machinery while maintaining a clean, organized work areaQUALIFICATIONS
7+ years of CNC machining experience in programming and setup (10+ years preferred) Strong background operating both CNC mills and turning centers Experience programming with Mastercam (Fusion 360 or GibbsCam experience considered) Ability to write, edit, and troubleshoot machine code at the controller Thorough understanding of GD&T and complex blueprint interpretation Experience working from prints and/or 3D models Fixture design experience using 3D modeling software Ability to quickly diagnose and resolve machining or programming issues Experience holding tight tolerances in precision manufacturing environments Wire EDM experience preferred but not required High school diploma required; technical training or machining degree preferred Strong mathematical aptitude and attention to detail Organized, self-directed, and capable of working independently Ability to lift 30 lbs.
