Full Job Description Description:
Summary Operate and maintain lathe and milling machines. Review drawings or samples to ensure accurate production; take precise measurements for cutting/shaping tasks using appropriate machine settings. Set up & operate conventional, special purpose, computer numerical control (CNC) machines such as mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders, shapers, broaches to fabricate metallic, non-metallic parts.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Studies blueprints/sketches/drawings/manuals/specifications/sample part to determine dimension/tolerances of finished work piece/sequence of operations/set-up requirements Measures/marks/scribes dimensions/reference points on material/work piece as guides for subsequent machining Selects/aligns/secures holding fixtures/cutting tools/attachments/accessories/materials on machines such as mills/lathes/jig borers/grinders/shapers Calculates/sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed/feed/coolant flow/depth/angle of cut or enters commands to retrieve/input/edit computerized machine control media Starts/observes machine operation to detect malfunctions/out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls/control media as required Manufactures first part and secures first piece approval before commencing production run Verifies finished work piece to specifications/maintains all required by control plan Deburs all work produced Sets up/operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings/programmed data Cleans machine/tooling/parts/work area at completion of job/day end Performs machine maintenance according to designated schedule Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
5 years' experience in machinist capacity preferred
