CNC Machinist Job Description The CNC Machinist operates a variety of Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines, including mills and lathes, to produce precision components that meet strict quality standards. This role focuses on setting up and running vertical and horizontal mills and lathes, interpreting blueprints, and using precision measuring tools to achieve tight tolerances. The machinist contributes directly to production efficiency and product quality in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC mills and CNC lathes, including both vertical and horizontal machines, to produce precision parts. Interpret and read engineering blueprints to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances. Use precision measuring tools and equipment to inspect parts and ensure they meet .001 tolerances and quality specifications. Configure and adjust machine settings, including Fanuc controls, to optimize machining operations. Perform CNC programming or make program adjustments on mills and lathes as needed to meet part specifications. Conduct machine setups for new jobs, including selecting appropriate tooling, fixtures, and workholding methods. Monitor machining operations to identify and correct issues related to tooling, dimensions, or surface finish. Maintain a clean and organized work area in alignment with 5S and safety practices. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and improve process efficiency. Perform basic preventive maintenance on machines and report any mechanical or control issues promptly. Essential Skills 2+ years of machining experience within the past 5 years, or completion of a relevant trade school certificate. Hands-on experience operating CNC mills and CNC lathes, including both vertical and horizontal configurations. Proficiency in CNC mill machining and CNC lathe/mill operations. Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately for machining tasks. Experience with machine setup, including tooling selection and fixture setup. Demonstrated ability to hold and inspect .001 tolerances on precision parts. Familiarity with Fanuc controls for CNC machines. Experience with HAAS and Samsung CNC equipment or similar platforms. Strong understanding of precision measuring tools and quality inspection practices. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and follow safety procedures. Work Environment The role is based in a new, clean, fully climate-controlled manufacturing facility designed for comfort and efficiency. The workspace follows 5S principles, emphasizing organization, cleanliness, and safety. You will work with modern CNC equipment, including HAAS and Samsung machines with Fanuc controls, in a production environment that is moving and expanding machining lines. The typical schedule includes approximately three weeks of training on day shift from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., followed by transition to second shift from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with voluntary work available on Fridays. The environment supports focused, precision-oriented work while maintaining a professional and orderly shop floor. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oklahoma City, OK. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $27.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
