CNC Machinist Job Description This hands-on CNC Machinist role focuses on operating industrial machining equipment to manufacture multi-ton steel rolls in a heavy industrial production environment. You will set up and run CNC milling lathes, grinding machines, and other equipment, monitor part quality, and use precision measuring tools to maintain tight tolerances while supporting high-volume, rotating-shift production. Responsibilities Operate industrial machining equipment used to manufacture multi-ton steel rolls in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. Set up and safely run CNC milling lathes, grinding machines, roughing, and plugging operations according to production requirements. Monitor machine operations and part quality throughout each run, making necessary adjustments to maintain specifications and efficiency. Use precision measuring tools, including micrometers and calipers, to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet tight tolerances. Apply strong math skills to interpret measurements, tolerances, and basic machining calculations during production. Perform basic troubleshooting on machines and processes to resolve issues and minimize downtime. Follow detailed work instructions and production schedules to meet daily output and quality targets. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area around large industrial equipment. Adhere strictly to all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to support continuous production, including regular overtime and Saturday work as needed. Essential Skills Experience using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers to verify part dimensions. Strong math skills related to measurements, tolerances, and basic machining calculations. Mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand how machines operate and respond to adjustments. Troubleshooting ability to identify and resolve issues with machine operation and part quality. Prior experience operating manufacturing or industrial machines in a production environment. Ability to work safely and effectively around large industrial equipment in a heavy manufacturing setting. Capability to stand for long periods and perform physically demanding tasks during rotating shifts. Willingness to work rotating weekly shifts (7:00am-3:00pm, 3:00pm-11:00pm, 11:00pm-7:00am) and regular overtime, including Saturdays. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating CNC machines or any type of lathe. Familiarity with Allen-Bradley controls in an industrial setting. Basic understanding of G-code for CNC programming and operation. Experience working with very tight tolerances in machining applications. Background in general production, assembly, or machine operating roles. Comfort using troubleshooting techniques to improve machine performance and product quality. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a heavy industrial manufacturing facility that machines multi-ton steel rolls using large CNC milling lathes, grinding machines, and other equipment. The environment is loud and physically demanding, requiring comfort with standing for extended periods, working around large moving machinery, and following strict safety procedures. Team members wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and work rotating weekly shifts (7:00am-3:00pm, 3:00pm-11:00pm, 11:00pm-7:00am), with regular overtime, including Saturdays, to meet production demand. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Castle, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $31.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
