STS Technical Services is hiring a Traveling Machinist in Spring City, Pennsylvania, to support advanced CNC machining and precision manufacturing operations. This role is designed for an experienced machinist who can take ownership of complex parts, independently develop and optimize CNC programs and solve difficult machining, tooling, fixture and dimensional challenges. Position Overview The Traveling Machinist serves as a technical resource for demanding CNC machining work, including advanced multi-axis applications. This position owns the machining process from initial programming and setup through prove-out and production release. The Traveling Machinist will also support less-experienced machinists, troubleshoot complex production issues and contribute to improvements involving equipment, tooling and machining processes. Responsibilities Develop CNC programs for new and complex components Optimize existing CNC programs to improve machining performance Support advanced multi-axis machining work Take ownership of machining processes from initial setup through prove-out and production release Read and interpret complex blueprints and engineering drawings Apply GD&T requirements during programming, setup and machining Develop tooling and workholding strategies Design machining setups for difficult or non-standard components Troubleshoot CNC programs, tooling and fixtures Identify and correct dimensional and machining issues Use precision measurement equipment to verify part quality Apply shop mathematics to machining and inspection requirements Perform root cause analysis on complex machining and quality issues Develop permanent solutions for recurring production problems Mentor CNC Operators and Machinist I and II team members Provide technical guidance when standard machining methods do not resolve an issue Support the evaluation of new machining equipment Evaluate CNC controls, tooling and related technologies Identify and support improvements that increase machining efficiency, safety and capability Qualifications Extensive hands-on CNC machining experience Expert-level CNC program development skills Strong CNC troubleshooting experience Experience with complex and advanced machining applications Ability to independently develop machining programs and setups Advanced blueprint reading skills Expert working knowledge of GD&T Strong tooling and workholding knowledge Ability to troubleshoot machining, dimensional and quality issues Experience using precision measurement equipment Strong shop math skills Ability to perform root cause analysis Ability to work independently on complex machining assignments Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to other machinists Strong problem-solving skills About STS Technical Services STS Technical Services is a Top 100 Staffing Firm that partners with leading aerospace, manufacturing, defense and industrial organizations across the United States.
