Manual Machinist Job Description SRM is currently seeking an experienced Manual Machinist to support the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport (NUWCDIVNPT) and its Industrial Services Enterprise (ISE). This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. In addition, you must be capable of obtaining certifications in compliance with the Military standards as a new or existing federal employee. Primary Responsibilities Ability to perform machinist duties and responsibilities without more than normal supervision Proficient in the setup and operation of conventional machine equipment such as: Various Milling Machines (Bridgeport and ProtoTRAK™ workstations) Lathes Various Precision Grinders (Surface, Cylindrical and Tool) Band Saws and Cut-off Saws Cutter Grinders Proficient in performing conventional machining processes and operations such as: Metal disintegration and removal of broken taps/studs Sharpening tools, bits, and cutters Ability to interpret and use shop drawings, blueprints, and sketches Proficient in the use of conventional machine shop measuring devices and pertinent hand tools Perform First Piece Inspection of machined part to verify compliance with engineering drawings Inspect completed machined parts for dimensional accuracy using measuring devices Deburr and clean machined parts using hand files, pneumatic tooling, and various abrasives Accurately assess assigned tasks and provide feedback to technical lead when necessary Operate overhead cranes and perform a variety of riggings to support and move large, heavy materials, such as Stainless Steel, Titanium, Aluminum, and various Plastics Maintain a clean, safe work area and organization of tools at assigned machining workstations Qualifications High school/Vocational school diploma or GED certificate or graduate of U.S. Navy "A" school, apprentice school or technical school.
