The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to interpret blueprints and engineering information, and hands-on experience with machining procedures to maintain high-quality standards and efficient production. Responsibilities Set up and operate a variety of machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders, and drill presses, to produce precision parts and instruments. Machine parts to exact specifications using both CNC and manual equipment, ensuring adherence to required dimensions and tolerances. Calculate dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, and other inspection tools. Set up, adjust, and operate basic and specialized machine tools to perform precision machining operations on large and small workpieces. Monitor machine feed and speed during machining operations and make necessary adjustments to maintain optimal cutting conditions. Maintain machine tools in proper operating condition by performing routine checks, minor repairs, and preventive maintenance. Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine machining methods, sequences of operations, and tooling requirements. Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency and confirm that setups and programs produce parts within specification. Check workpieces to ensure proper lubrication and cooling during machining to prevent damage and ensure surface finish quality. Program computers or electronic controls for numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, including conversational programming on Haas and similar controls. Diagnose machine tool malfunctions and determine the need for adjustments, repairs, or replacement of parts. Confer with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information and clarify requirements or specifications.
