POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to set up and operate manual lathes, mills, and other production equipment while meeting close tolerances and short production lead times. This position will work from drawings, process sheets, sketches, and specifications to plan machining operations, select appropriate tooling and fixtures, and determine proper speeds and feeds. The ideal candidate can visualize finished components, identify and report blueprint errors, sharpen tooling, and consistently produce accurate work while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, and other production equipment with moderate supervision.
• Read and interpret drawings, process sheets, sketches, specifications, and layouts to determine machining requirements.
• Plan the sequence of operations and perform machine setups, including adjustments and selection of tools and fixtures.
• Determine appropriate speeds and feeds for machining operations.
• Select proper chucks and fixtures to securely hold workpieces.
• Perform close-tolerance machining operations, including forming, boring, turning, facing, drilling, tapping, and honing.
• Identify and report blueprint errors or discrepancies requiring correction.
• Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and ensure finished components meet specifications.
• Grind and sharpen tooling as required and maintain tools in proper working condition.
• Perform minor program edits as required.
• Perform routine equipment service and maintenance when required.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all company safety directives.
• Complete and submit final inspection reports and required documentation.
• Perform temporarily assigned work of equal or lower classification in other shop areas as needed.
• Meet productivity standards and production deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Basic Qualifications

• High school diploma with two years of shop training, or equivalent.
• 2-4 years of experience operating a manual mill or lathe.
• Ability to set up manual machining equipment and perform close-tolerance machining operations.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and written instructions.
• Proficiency using gauges, micrometers, Vernier measuring instruments, and other precision inspection tools.
• Proficiency using machinist hand tools, hoist fixtures, chucks, collets, steady rests, drills, taps, honing equipment, and bars.
• Ability to determine appropriate speeds and feeds and grind or sharpen tooling.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Willingness to work additional hours and weekends as required to meet deadlines and customer expectations. Additional Qualifications
