Job Description
Combilift OperatorPosition Summary The Structural Steel Combilift Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a Combilift forklift to move, load, unload, stage, and organize structural steel materials throughout the fabrication facility and yard. This position plays a key role in maintaining an organized workflow and ensuring materials are available where and when they are needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Safely operate a Combilift forklift to transport structural steel, plate, beams, columns, tubing, and other fabricated materials. Load and unload trucks, trailers, and material deliveries. Move materials between the yard, fabrication areas, and staging locations. Properly stage and organize steel materials according to production needs. Use caution when handling long, oversized, or unusually shaped steel products. Assist with loading finished structural steel for shipment. Verify materials and loads before moving or loading to help prevent errors or damage. Secure and position materials safely to prevent shifting or falling. Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns. Maintain awareness of employees, equipment, vehicles, and other hazards in the work area. Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and equipment operating procedures. Keep work areas, material storage areas, and loading zones organized and free of unnecessary hazards. Communicate effectively with supervisors, material handlers, welders, fitters, loaders, and other production personnel. Assist with general material-handling duties as needed. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications Previous experience operating a Combilift, forklift, or other heavy material-handling equipment preferred. Experience in a structural steel fabrication, manufacturing, construction, or industrial environment preferred. Ability to safely handle long and oversized materials. Ability to read and understand basic material tags, load information, and work instructions. Good communication and teamwork skills. Strong attention to detail and safety awareness. Ability to work independently and make safe decisions while operating equipment. Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential. Physical Requirements Ability to sit and operate equipment for extended periods. Ability to frequently enter and exit the Combilift. Ability to work outdoors and indoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to work around noise, dust, steel materials, and heavy industrial equipment. Ability to occasionally walk, stand, bend, climb, and reach. Must be able to safely perform the physical requirements of the position. Work Environment This position is performed in a heavy industrial structural steel fabrication environment, including production areas, material storage areas, loading areas, and outdoor yards. Employees are expected to follow all established safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
