Job Description

Senior Laser Operator & Subject Matter Expert Fat Fender Garage•
Chassis Manufacturing Division Location:
Gilbert, AZ Fat Fender Garage (FFG) is expanding into full in-house chassis manufacturing beginning January 2026 and is seeking an experienced Trumpf Laser Operator & Subject Matter Expert (SME) to help establish and lead our new fabrication line. This role is critical to producing precision-formed components for our high-end custom truck chassis and requires deep knowledge of CNC press brake operation, advanced forming techniques, and production best practices. We are looking for a highly skilled professional who can operate at an expert level, program complex bends, guide process improvements, support new product development, and help train junior operators as our division scales.
  • Key Responsibilities Laser Operation & Programming
  • Operate and optimize a Trumpf TruLaser 1030 and other CNC fabrication machinery.
  • Independently set up tooling, select punches/dies, load programs, and configure and calibrate all machine parameters.
  • Perform advanced laser programming, develop new programs, and refine existing ones for accuracy, speed, and repeatability.
  • Interpret, adjust cuts per engineering drawings and process control instructions.
  • Apply expert-level understanding and application of cut process, and forming of thick steel used in chassis components. Fabrication & Quality Assurance
  • Produce cuts to exact dimensional tolerances based on complex mechanical engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, and CAD-generated models.
  • Inspect finished components using calipers, gauges, protractors, and other precision instruments.
  • Troubleshoot complex items and adjust processes to maintain quality and consistency.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to refine manufacturability and resolve forming challenges on R&D chassis components. Leadership & SME Contribution
  • Serve as the in-house subject matter expert for laser operation, tooling selection, programming strategy, and setup optimization.
  • Provide hands-on training, guidance, and mentorship to junior or entry-level operators as the division grows.
  • Assist in establishing standardized workflows, setup sheets, and quality procedures for the new chassis manufacturing line. Maintenance & General Operations
  • Perform daily and routine operator-level maintenance on laser equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work area.
  • Assist with general fabrication tasks including material handling, machine prep, and equipment upkeep.
  • Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and operational procedures.
  • Required Skills & Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional laser experience (Trumpf Trulaser 1030 strongly preferred; other brands will be considered acceptable with willingness to transition).
  • Expert knowledge of cutting, loading materials, forming strategies, and sheet/plate metal behavior.
  • Proven ability to program CNC press brakes from scratch for new parts.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed mechanical engineering drawings, charts, and GD&T.
  • Strong math skills, including fractions, decimal conversions, bend calculations, and angle measurement.
