Machine Operator Lead

$21.50

•$22.00 per hour

Schedule:

2nd Shift

•3:30pm-12:00am. Saturday Overtime is available, not mandatory. Must train on 1st shift.

Full-Time Job Overview Guidex Group is now hiring an experienced Machine Operator Lead for a metal grinding company located in Montebello, CA. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for supporting and overseeing 2nd Shift machining operations while also operating manual grinding and machining equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong manual machining experience along with the ability to train employees, assign work, monitor quality, and help keep production running safely and efficiently. The selected candidate will initially train on 1st Shift to learn the company's equipment, processes, quality standards, and shop procedures before transitioning into the Lead position on 2nd Shift. Key Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day 2nd Shift production activities and help ensure production schedules, quality standards, and safety procedures are followed. Train, coach, and support Machine Operators on proper machine setup, operation, quality, and safety procedures. Assign and prioritize jobs based on production deadlines, machine availability, and workflow. Monitor employee performance and communicate operational or performance concerns to management as necessary. Coordinate with 1st Shift leadership and management to ensure an effective shift handoff. Immediately communicate quality issues, nonconforming parts, equipment problems, and safety concerns to the appropriate department or management. Maintain an organized, productive, and safety-focused work environment. Machine Operation Responsibilities Operate manual surface grinders, Blanchard grinders, and/or milling machines to machine and finish metal components. Set up equipment, including selecting appropriate grinding wheels, cutters, speeds, and feeds. Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, job layouts, and technical drawings. Inspect finished work using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges. Perform work to required dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish specifications. Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy and quality. Complete required production and quality documentation. Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean and organized work area. Follow all established machine shop and safety procedures. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or apprenticeship training preferred. 3-5+ years of hands-on experience operating manual surface grinders, Blanchard grinders, milling machines, or similar manual machining equipment. Previous Lead, Trainer, or Supervisory experience preferred. Strong understanding of manual machining techniques, feeds and speeds, and grinding wheel selection. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings. Experience using precision measuring tools. Understanding of metal properties, including steels, tool steels, and aluminum. Ability to work with tight tolerances of approximately ±0.001" or better. Ability to train employees, communicate expectations clearly, and provide direction in a production environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive shop-related movements. Ability to safely lift, carry, and move tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with team lifting or mechanical assistance used for heavier items. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination necessary to safely operate machinery and measuring equipment. Ability to safely use ladders or step ladders when required. Ability to work safely within a machine shop/manufacturing environment. Work Environment This position works primarily in an industrial machine shop environment and may involve exposure to operating machinery, metal components, noise, oils, coolants, grinding operations, and other conditions commonly associated with machining and manufacturing facilities.
