Job Duties Set up and operate band saws to cut metal materials including steel, aluminum, and other alloys. Read and interpret job travelers, blueprints, cut lists, and mechanical drawings to determine cutting requirements. Measure and mark materials using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, or other precision tools. Select proper blades based on material type and thickness. Monitor saw performance and adjust feed rates, blade tension, and cutting angles as needed. Perform routine machine checks and basic preventative maintenance (blade changes, lubrication, cleaning). Ensure cut parts meet dimensional tolerances and quality standards. Identify and report material defects or equipment malfunctions. Maintain an organized work area and comply with all safety standards and PPE requirements. Assist with loading/unloading material and moving stock throughout the shop as needed. Requirements High school diploma or GED required; trade school or vocational training a plus. Minimum 1 year experience operating band saws or other cutting equipment in a machine shop environment. Familiarity with common metals and alloys used in machining. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and work instructions. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently. Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs and working on your feet for extended periods. Commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
