Job Title:
Chemical Operator Job Description The Chemical Operator processes, purifies, and fabricates chemical products through a sequence of batch operations while following detailed written procedures and strict safety, quality, and environmental standards. This role operates a variety of production equipment, handles both liquid and solid chemicals, maintains accurate production and inventory records, and collaborates closely with laboratory and operations personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant manufacturing. Responsibilities Work from written procedures and standard operating procedures to process, purify, and chemically fabricate products and their compounds through a sequence of batch operations. Operate production equipment, including reactors, tanks, pumps, mixers, pH meters, level meters, flow meters, valves, and hoses used in the manufacture of chemical products. Handle liquid and solid chemicals using pumps, scales, and flow meters, ensuring safe and accurate transfer and measurement. Weigh, measure, and check raw materials and finished products to ensure batches contain the correct ingredients and quantities and that accurate inventory is maintained. Perform product weighing, packaging, labeling, and boxing operations in accordance with established SOPs. Locate materials in the warehouse and transport them to manufacturing areas using a forklift as needed. Collect process samples and coordinate with laboratory personnel for analysis to verify product quality and process performance. Maintain required log sheets, including batch tickets, packaging sheets, scrubber operation logs, pH meter calibration records, and equipment inspection documentation. Attend required Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) training, including Hazardous Waste Management, emergency response, and Hazard Communication, and demonstrate a solid understanding of these topics. Package, mark, and label hazardous waste containers in compliance with regulatory and internal requirements. Operate equipment and follow procedures in accordance with ISO 9001 and applicable ISO and OSHA standards. Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards in the work area to ensure a clean, organized, and safe production environment. Communicate effectively with the shift leader regarding safety, production, quality, and other operational issues. Actively participate in shift meetings to support work planning, problem-solving, and continuous improvement initiatives. Adhere to all corporate, plant, and safety policies and procedures at all times. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for tasks and areas. Complete all assigned training, including corporate, HSE, and quality-specific training, within required timeframes. Assist in training and mentoring other chemical operators in operations, processes, and procedures to support efficiency, safety, and compliance. Perform other related duties as assigned to support production and operational goals. Essential Skills High School Diploma or GED equivalent. At least 2 years of applicable experience; chemical manufacturing experience is highly preferred. Hands-on experience operating production machinery and equipment such as reactors, tanks, pumps, mixers, and associated instruments. Experience in material handling, including working with liquid and solid chemicals using pumps, scales, and flow meters. Ability to safely operate a forklift to move materials between warehouse and manufacturing areas. Strong attention to detail in weighing, measuring, and checking raw materials and finished products. Ability to follow written procedures, SOPs, and batch records accurately and consistently. Experience maintaining production documentation, including batch tickets, log sheets, and equipment inspection records. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely to engineering, sales, technicians, and other team members. Ability to work safely with hazardous materials and hazardous waste in a regulated environment. Capability to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment. Comfort working within ISO 9001 and OSHA-compliant environments and following related standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Chemical manufacturing experience, particularly in batch processing, is highly preferred. Experience with sulfide or cyanide gold reaction processes or other precious metals products. Experience working in a clean-room environment. Forklift certification is preferred. Hazardous Waste Operations certification is preferred. Familiarity with Hazardous Waste Management, emergency response, and Hazard Communication practices. Exposure to
ISO 9001
quality systems and related documentation practices. Ability to support and train other operators on processes and procedures. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a chemical manufacturing facility that operates with structured batch processes and strict adherence to ISO 9001 and OSHA standards. You will work around production equipment such as reactors, tanks, pumps, mixers, pH meters, level meters, flow meters, valves, and hoses, as well as standard material handling equipment including forklifts. The environment involves handling both liquid and solid chemicals, including hazardous materials and hazardous waste, with comprehensive HSE training and procedures in place. Some operations may occur in clean-room conditions, requiring additional cleanliness and contamination-control practices. The position requires consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment and adherence to housekeeping and 5S standards to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Working hours typically follow a shift-based structure, with regular communication and shift meetings to coordinate production activities and address safety, quality, and operational topics. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Haven, CT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $27.00/hr.
