Jacksonville, FL Job Details $20 - $22 an hour 9 hours ago Qualifications Engineering equipment malfunctions diagnostics Industrial equipment troubleshooting Electrical equipment corrective maintenance Electrical maintenance Mechanical troubleshooting Production troubleshooting Full Job Description Position Summary The Lead Machine Operator is responsible for operating production equipment while providing day-to-day leadership and guidance to Machine Operators assigned to the production line. This position helps ensure that production goals are met safely, efficiently, and according to company quality standards. The Lead Machine Operator serves as the first point of contact on the production line for operational issues, assists with training employees, monitors equipment and production performance, and performs mechanical and electrical troubleshooting to identify and resolve equipment issues when appropriate. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Safely operate, monitor, set up, and adjust production machinery and equipment. Lead and coordinate the daily activities of Machine Operators and other employees assigned to the production line. Ensure employees follow established operating procedures, safety requirements, and company policies. Perform machine startup, shutdown, changeovers, adjustments, and troubleshooting. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems with production machinery and equipment. Identify equipment malfunctions and determine whether issues can be safely corrected or require assistance from Maintenance or other qualified personnel. Perform basic mechanical adjustments and repairs within the scope of the position and established company safety procedures. Understand basic electrical components and systems used in production equipment, including sensors, switches, motors, wiring, control panels, and related components. Monitor equipment throughout the shift and immediately report significant mechanical, electrical, or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor or Maintenance personnel. Monitor production output and help ensure daily production goals and schedules are met. Verify that products meet established quality specifications and report quality concerns promptly. Assist with training new and existing Machine Operators on equipment operation, troubleshooting, safety procedures, quality requirements, and proper work methods. Ensure employees use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow machine-safety procedures. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe production area. Complete required production, quality, safety, maintenance, and equipment documentation accurately and timely. Communicate shift information, production issues, equipment concerns, and incomplete work to supervisors and/or the incoming shift. Assist supervisors with identifying workflow, staffing, equipment, or productivity concerns. Respond appropriately to machine jams, malfunctions, electrical faults, mechanical failures, and other production interruptions in accordance with established procedures. Stop equipment or production when an immediate safety hazard or serious quality concern is identified and notify management. Promote teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and respectful communication among production employees. Perform Machine Operator duties as needed to support production requirements. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous manufacturing, production, or machine-operation experience required. Previous lead or supervisory experience preferred. Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical troubleshooting is required. Ability to diagnose common mechanical and electrical equipment problems and determine appropriate corrective action. Knowledge of basic mechanical components, including motors, bearings, belts, chains, gears, conveyors, pneumatic systems, and related production equipment. Knowledge of basic electrical components, including sensors, switches, wiring, motors, control panels, and electrical connections. Ability to safely use basic hand tools, measuring devices, and troubleshooting equipment appropriate to the position. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Ability to safely operate and understand production machinery. Ability to understand production schedules, work instructions, equipment manuals, and safety procedures. Ability to train and provide direction to other employees. Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment. Basic computer and documentation skills preferred. Must demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality. Safety Responsibilities The Lead Machine Operator is expected to actively promote a safe work environment and must follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, equipment-specific procedures, lockout/tagout requirements when applicable, and PPE requirements. Employees must never bypass, disable, remove, or interfere with machine guards or other safety devices. Electrical or mechanical work must only be performed when the employee is properly trained and authorized to perform the work. Any unsafe equipment or condition must be reported immediately. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to: Stand and walk for extended periods. Bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements. Regularly lift and/or move materials associated with the production process. Work around moving machinery and industrial equipment. Work in manufacturing environments that may include noise, dust, heat, and varying temperatures. Wear required PPE, including appropriate safety footwear, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and other equipment as required by the position or work area.
