Machine Operator Waltham, MA Apply A Machine Operator is a hands-on technical role responsible for running CNC and manual machining equipment. This person spends the majority of their time on the machines operating, tweaking programs and offsets, and checking their parts for dimensional accuracy. A Machine operator works closely with and reports to the Lead Machinist, who determines job routing and machine assignments. The operator is responsible for executing that work at a high standard and keeping their machines running smoothly day to day.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain a set up CNC and manual machines to produce precision components to print, holding tight tolerances consistent with Bird Precision\'s micro-machining standards. Tweak/ alter minor CNC programs as needed to support production requirements. Load raw material (bar stock) into machines and continue inventory runs. Identify tooling needs and reports shortages to Lead Machinist. Maintain a clean, organized, and presentable shop floor/ area in keeping with 5S / good housekeeping practices. Execute the machine assignments and job routing/scheduling determined by the Director of Operations. Support quality standards by inspecting in-process and finished parts and flagging issues promptly. Follow all safety procedures and promote a safe working environment for the team.

Qualifications:

Working knowledge of Basic CNC programming, editing, and setup (G-code). Strong blueprint reading and precision measurement/inspection skills (micrometers, calipers, comparators, gauges). Comfort working to tight tolerances on small, delicate components. Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and as part of a small team. Good communication skills able to relay information clearly between the floor and Lead Machinist High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training in machining a plus.

Be able to set up and maintain runs on CNC machines Able to read and write G-code specific to Star Machines Able to set up and run manual lathes and Bridgeport for secondary machining as required Be able to create and shape own tooling in house for jobs as required.
