Job Summary:
The Plastic Injection Mold Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring plastic injection molding machines to produce high-quality plastic parts and components. This role involves setting up machines, ensuring proper material flow, performing quality checks, and conducting routine maintenance to ensure efficient production and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Machine Operation:
Set up and operate injection molding machines according to work orders, blueprints, or design specifications. Load raw plastic materials (pellets, powders) into machine hoppers. Monitor machine parameters such as temperature, pressure, volume, and cycle time, making adjustments as needed to ensure optimal production and part quality. Observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or material shortages, and alert supervisors or technicians as necessary. Troubleshoot basic machine issues and perform minor adjustments or repairs.
Quality Control:
Inspect finished products for defects (e.g., flash, short shots, warpage, discoloration) and ensure they meet quality standards and customer specifications. Perform in-process inspections using various tools like calipers, gauges, and visual inspection methods. Remove finished parts from molds, trimming excess material (runners, flash) using hand tools (knives, cutters). Identify, properly contain, and label scrap or non-conforming parts. Complete required production and quality control reports accurately.
Maintenance and Housekeeping:
Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of machines and work areas, ensuring a clean and organized work environment (e.g., following 5S principles). Assist with mold changes, including positioning and securing molds and connecting necessary lines (water, air, hydraulic).
