Technical Specialist (Class B) - Mailroom Clerk/Bindery Technician Position Summary Operate high-speed copiers, digital presses, and bindery equipment to produce, assemble, finish, and deliver printed materials prior to shipping.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities Digital Press & High-Speed Copier Operation:
Prepare, set up, and operate high-speed copiers, digital presses, imposition software, and DPM platemakers. Adjust press controls, feed guides, elevators, ink volume, and registration. Mix inks, replace supplies, and perform routine preventive maintenance.
Bindery & Finishing:
Set up and operate bindery equipment including paper cutters, folders, paper drills, and Horizon collators. Perform punching, creasing, collating, stitching, trimming, folding, stapling, indexing, gluing, and perforating operations. Apply adhesive tape, mylar strips, and index tabs.
Wide Format Production & Installation:
Operate wide format printing and cutting equipment. Take precise measurements and handle on-site installation of wide-format graphics.
Assembly, Packaging & Fulfillment:
Insert extra sheets, illustrated pages, and collated sets into catalogs, periodicals, or loose-leaf binders. Apply labels, shrink-wrap products, pack items into boxes, and stack finished materials on pallets.
Quality Control & Records:
Examine bound and unbound publications for correct sequence, proper binding, print defects, and neatness. Maintain accurate daily production logs and keep work areas clean. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. 1-2 years of experience operating digital press, copier, and bindery equipment. Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and cooperatively with staff. Consistent, regular on-site attendance.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Physical Demands:
Stand for long periods; frequent walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Requires fine motor control, grasping, and clear vision (near, midrange, and far).
Work Environment:
Active warehouse environment with exposure to high noise levels, paper dust, chemicals, and heavy machinery. Occasional travel between district sites exposed to weather.
Rate of pay:
