Machine Operator Assistant - 1st Shift (6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Monday-Friday) $18-19/hr Job Description This role supports saw operators in an outdoor yard by performing general labor and assisting with machine operation. You will work alongside experienced operators to handle materials, catch and organize cut lumber/material, and ensure safe and efficient production throughout the shift. Responsibilities Assist the saw operator with day-to-day machine operation in an outdoor lumber yard. Stand at the end of the saw machine to catch, handle, and organize lumber as it is cut. Perform general labor and shop help duties to support overall production needs. Lift, move, and stack heavy materials safely and efficiently throughout the shift. Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools as needed to support cutting and production activities. Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area around the saw and lumber yard. Communicate clearly with the saw operator and team members to coordinate workflow and address any issues. Inspect materials visually for obvious defects or issues while handling and staging cut lumber. Essential Skills Experience in general labor, production, or similar physically demanding roles. Ability to perform heavy lifting and sustained physical work in an outdoor environment. Familiarity with basic machine operation, preferably in a production or lumber environment. Ability to safely assist with saw operation and material handling. Comfort using hand tools and power tools in a safe and controlled manner. Ability to use a tape measure accurately for basic measurements. Reliability in working a consistent 1st shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work Environment This position is based in an outdoor lumber yard environment year-round, working around saws and other production equipment used to cut and process lumber.
