2nd Shift Fiesta Mixer Class 4 Fiesta Mixer Level I Class 6 Machine Operator Level I 2nd shift Machine Operator Plant 2 1st Shift Specialty Line Associate Job Summary The Production & Machine Operations Specialist is responsible for carrying out essential manufacturing, machine operation, mixing, and packaging processes for small animal food and pet care products. This consolidated role combines equipment setup and operation, formula batching and mixing, product packaging, quality control, and inventory documentation using RF devices. Key Responsibilities 1. Machine & Extrusion Operation Set up, adjust, clean, and monitor automated manufacturing equipment, extruders, dryers, screeners, enrobers, and packaging machinery. Configure machine components (screw configurations, dies, inserts, spray/powder coating equipment, and Batching/Repete computers) based on product specifications. Monitor machines in real time to detect operational issues, performing routine troubleshooting and minor adjustments as necessary. 2. Mixing & Batching Operations Accurately measure, blend, and mix raw ingredients and hand-add additives (vitamins, minerals, dyes, oils) according to formula specifications. Coordinate batch scheduling with Milling Department Operators, Line Leaders, and Production Schedulers to ensure continuous material supply to packaging lines. Transfer finished mixes directly to assigned packaging bins and storage totes. 3. Packaging, Palletizing & Material Handling Assist in packaging line operations: test bag seals, verify code dates, check fill weights, and ensure product mix appearance meets standards. Package and stack finished goods onto pallets, mark pallets with proper destination tags, and wrap units for transport. Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts, hand carts, and pallet jacks, to move raw materials and completed inventory safely. 4. Quality Control & Safety Compliance Perform regular Process Quality Control checks for product moisture, water activity, density, color, shape, and visual standards. Record inventory transactions, batch logs, and work orders accurately using RF scanner devices and written paperwork. Adhere to all safety regulations (OSHA) and food safety guidelines (FSMA, USDA, SQF); report any potential quality or safety concerns immediately. Maintain a clean, orderly, and organized work environment in accordance with company standards.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
Prior manufacturing, machine operation, mixing/batching, or warehouse experience is preferred but not required (on-the-job training provided).
Technical Skills:
Mechanically inclined with basic troubleshooting capabilities. Proficient basic math skills (calculating weights, measurements, and batch ratios). Ability to read, interpret, and follow product formulas, work orders, and production schedules. Ability to operate or learn to operate an RF scanner, computer batching software, and powered industrial equipment (forklift/pallet jack).
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Physical Demands:
Frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, turning, reaching, and climbing (ladders/platforms). Regularly lift and handle 2 to 30 lbs. Moderately lift and handle up to 50-60 lbs. Occasionally lift up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
Work Environment:
Industrial manufacturing/warehouse environment. Ambient temperatures may vary with external weather conditions. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided.
