Equipment Operator - Horizontal Grinder & Excavator Maine Custom Woodlands Full-Time, Year-Round | Monday - Friday About Us Maine Custom Woodlands is a timber harvesting and excavation company operating across Southern, Central and Midcoast Maine since 1993. We're seeking an experienced, high-integrity Equipment Operator to join our team, take ownership of our horizontal grinding operations, and keep our jobs running smoothly year-round. The Role As our Horizontal Grinder Operator, you will lead the charge on material processing, managing material transportation needs, and equipment maintenance. You won't just be pulling levers - you will manage daily production, perform hands-on wear-and-tear maintenance and welding, and operate heavy machinery to maximize uptime and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities Jobsite Leadership:
Take full ownership of grinding operations on-site, calling for trucks, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and keeping operations running smoothly.
Production-Oriented Mindset:
Drive production goals and maximize output without sacrificing safety.
Material Management:
Load material into the horizontal grinder using an excavator while communicating with trucks to manage material transportation.
Routine & Preventive Maintenance:
Grease components, replace wear parts (teeth, screens, etc.), and handle minor field repairs.
Welding & Fabrication:
Execute necessary field welding and metal fabrication to keep equipment operational and minimize downtime.
What We're Looking For Excavator Experience:
Minimum of 2 years operating medium-to-large excavators. Experience operating forestry equipment (skidders, feller bunchers, etc.) a plus.
Mechanical & Welding Skills:
Proven proficiency in stick/mig welding and basic mechanical troubleshooting.
Work Ethic:
A dependable early riser with a strong, self-directed mindset and a focus on high-volume, quality production.
License:
Valid Driver's License required (Clean driving record to operate company vehicles).
