Calvert City, KY SUMMARY:
Operates the Chlor-Alkali facility to convert salt feedstock into Chlorine to provide conforming feedstock for the manufacture of vinyl chloride monomer. Operates equipment for the separation, purification, storage and shipping of co-products (caustic soda and hydrogen).
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates the chlorine cells, caustic evaporation, demineralized water system and hydrochloric acid (HCl) synthesis. ​ Maintains maximum plant feed rate (cellroom KA load) as allowed by process conditions. Operates equipment in the brine facilities for the removal of impurities and metals. Provide 180# steam for the plant steam system and air for instrument air dryers, dilution air dryers and plant air system. Operates the chlorine and hydrogen drying, compression and liquification process. Operates 20% caustic dilution system responsible for making transfers to supply other plant locations. Responsible for cooling tower and fire water diesel pumps. Monitor the chlorine waste water for removal of mercury and pH adjustment. Responsible for salt handling equipment for the purpose of brine saturation. Operate brine sludge handling equipment, placing contents in DOT approved containers and labeling appropriately. Performs routine process sampling, data collection and recording as scheduled and responds to correct observed abnormalities. Maintains housekeeping in Unit and cleans up after job tasks and properly disposes of waste materials. Tools and equipment are returned to normal storage. Completes other routine or assigned duties as necessary to meet Chlor-Alkali department and Westlake CA&O production goals in a safe, environmentally sound, and cost effective manner.
