Overview Buffalo Rapids Irrigation District No. 2 is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as the District Manager. Buffalo Rapids Irrigation District No. 2 is a Bureau of Reclamation irrigation project serving agricultural water users in Eastern Montana since 1945. The District diverts water from the Yellowstone River and delivers irrigation water to 11,621 acres through over 65 miles of canals and laterals. The District Manager is responsible for the oversight of all staff, operations, maintenance and construction in the District, as well as administration of the District, under the direction of a 3-member, elected board of directors. Responsibilities Manage efficient water delivery to irrigation users in 3 divisions Oversee daily operations, including maintenance of infrastructure, water distribution systems, and related facilities to ensure reliable service delivery. Lead financial management efforts by analyzing profit & loss statements, managing budgets, and driving cost-effective solutions. Manage a diverse staff, fostering growth, and a collaborative work environment. Coordinate with government agencies, acting as the District representative to all outside entities, and community partners to ensure compliance with regulations Serves as foreman of all repairs, construction and infrastructure improvement projects Qualifications Valid Montana driver's license; CDL preferred, but not required. High school diploma or GED equivalent Ability to lift over 50 pounds. Minimum of 5 years experience as heavy equipment operator. Minimum of 5 years of supervisory and managerial experience. Proficiency in pump operation, large water systems, and crop irrigation systems Strong managerial communication skills to effectively engage with staff, board of directors, and water users. Knowledge of water resource management regulations and standards is preferred but not mandatory. Ability to lead as foreman of complex projects with a focus on pipeline construction. Familiarity with local government or special purpose district processes and experience working under the direction of the board of directors.
