Under General Supervision of the Director, this position performs a variety of duties in the management, operation, and maintenance of the water system. Reports to the Director.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
May include, but are not limited to, the following: Operates and maintains the groundwater well and distribution system. Monitors and regulates water flow to tanks and water system. Installs and repairs water mains, service lines, hydrants, valves, water meters, etc. Constructs and installs water mains, service lines, water taps, service connections, valves, hydrants, meters, and associated appurtenances. Investigates water quality and customer complaints. Installs chlorine cylinders and maintain chlorine residuals throughout the system. Performs daily operational checks; and maintenance, as required, on groundwater wells including adjusting chlorine dosage, replacing cylinders, operating and replacing pumps. Performs chlorine residual testing. Collects bacteria samples throughout the system for testing. Operates and maintains heavy and light equipment such as excavators, backhoes, arrowboards, compressors, pipeline locators, shovels, rakes, etc. Performs basic electrical functions such as resetting/restarting equipment and changing fuses and troubleshoots failures. Inspects equipment, facilities, and grounds for maintenance and safety needs; initiates corrective action as required. Operates lawn equipment to maintain all facilities to acceptable standards. Maintains facilities to acceptable standards, including cleaning, sanding, painting, any other as required. Operates emergency generators and electrical motors as required. Assists with operation of the SCADA system; resetting systems, replacing transducers, replacing radio equipment. Performs routine maintenance, custodial duties, painting, and cleaning. Reads meters on a monthly basis and as needed otherwise. Utilizes meter reading equipment to manually read meters and drive by radio meter systems. Responds to after hour emergencies as required. Assists with planning and installing infrastructure improvements. Maintains an inventory of parts as required. Maintains accurate records of groundwater wells, inventory, etc. Locates water lines and appurtenances as required. Attends training as required. Performs all other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
Requires a high school diploma, supplemented by a minimum of 2 years of related experience in public water utilities operation, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have a South Carolina "D" Water Treatment Operator license and a South Carolina "C" Water Distribution license or the ability to obtain within an established time frame.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
Must have knowledge of the following: Water system parts and inventory. Customer service and work order processes. Heavy and light equipment used in operating and maintaining water systems. Groundwater and surface water systems.
PHYSICAL ABILITY
Must be physically able to operate heavy and light equipment and machines. Must be able to stoop, lift, push, pull, reach, kneel, climb, crawl, crouch, carry, and otherwise move items and objects. Work involves walking or standing for periods of time and includes outdoor work during inclement weather. Must be able to lift/carry weight of 10-100 pounds. $48,500.00 - $70,500.00 per year
