Job:
The purpose of this classification is to perform responsible technical work in operating the City's water treatment plant. Work involves monitoring the plant operations; performing needed preventive maintenance, and repair on the water plant, meters, and other related facilities, recording chemical and flow meter readings, maintaining, updating records, and logs.Education, Certification and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma, GED or equivalency. A minimum of 2 years experience in a treatment facility is required. Will accept applications for apprentice. Valid Texas Operator Driver's License. Shift work, weekends and holidays. Must have a Class C Water Operator License or be able to acquire it within 12 months.Essential Functions:
1. Operates the water treatment plant in accordance with standards and guidelines outlined by State and Federal agencies. Monitors plant systems, inspect plant, and equipment ensuring continuous and effective operation. Monitor gauges, and dials, records statistical data, and maintains a variety of logs/records including flowcharts, production reports, operation logs, etc... 2. Performs preventive maintenance and repair on the water plant equipment and related systems; repairs broken water cutoffs and water leaks; oils and adjusts power driven water pumps, cleans equipment, etc. Makes minor electrical, and/or plumbing repairs as needed. Reports any problems or need for equipment repair. 3. Collects water samples; performs laboratory tests; and maintains records of findings and water characteristics. Calibrates test equipment. 4. Monitors and adjusts chemical dosages to maintain desired results and not exceed MCL set by state and federal guidelines. 5. Performs a variety of maintenance and repair work in support of the water plant and its systems. Performs mowing and general grounds keeping around the water plant, water tower, ground tanks etc. Performs general maintenance and cleaning of facility to include sweeping, mopping and painting as needed. 6. Responds to emergency calls for repair, customer complaints, troubleshooting all calls, dispatching the proper personnel, replacing valves for the replacement program (under PW-Utility Maintenance); turning off water when required; and sets up barricades. 7. Performs preventative maintenance on vehicle and maintains records on use and mileage. 8. Works to educate customers on program policies and procedures. Flushes fire hydrants and dead end mains as needed. Conducts tours of the water plant upon request. Regular attendance is required. Performs other duties as requested.NOTE:
