Job Description

Position Summary The UV Print Department Lead is responsible for leading the large-format UV printing department by ensuring the timely production of high-quality printed graphics for signage, displays, retail environments, architectural graphics, and specialty applications. This is a working leadership position that combines hands-on production with daily supervision, scheduling, training, quality control, equipment maintenance, and coordination with other production departments to ensure work flows efficiently from prepress through finishing and shipping.   • Operate large-format UV flatbed and roll-to-roll printers to produce high-quality graphics on a variety of rigid and flexible substrates.
  • Lead daily UV print department operations while actively working alongside the production team.
  • Schedule and prioritize print production to meet customer deadlines and production schedules.
  • Review work orders, artwork, RIP settings, color profiles, and production specifications before printing.
  • Set up print jobs including media loading, ink verification, vacuum settings, print modes, and curing parameters.
  • Perform printer calibrations, nozzle checks, head alignments, and color verification to ensure consistent output.
  • Monitor print quality throughout production to verify color accuracy, registration, adhesion, and overall appearance.
  • Troubleshoot print defects including banding, nozzle loss, color shifts, ink adhesion issues, and media handling problems.
  • Coordinate daily with Design, Prepress, Routing, Finishing, Installation, Shipping, and Customer Service to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Monitor department productivity, machine utilization, production capacity, and bottlenecks while communicating scheduling needs to the Operations Manager.
  • Train, coach, and develop employees on UV printing techniques, RIP software, color management, preventive maintenance, quality standards, and safe equipment operation.
  • Maintain printers through routine preventive maintenance including cleaning, lubrication, filter replacement, and manufacturer-recommended service procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of inks, printheads, cleaning solutions, media, and production consumables.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best practices.
  • Support cross-training initiatives across production departments.
  • Enforce company safety policies while maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve print quality, throughput, material utilization, and overall department efficiency.
Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises UV Print Department employees. The UV Print Department Lead leads by example through professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. This individual is responsible for building a high-performing department focused on quality, productivity, employee development, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence while supporting CGS Imaging's core values. Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience operating large-format UV printing equipment in a commercial graphics or sign manufacturing environment.
  • Previous supervisory, lead, or production management experience preferred.
  • Experience operating EFI or similar industrial UV printers.
  • Strong understanding of RIP software such as ONYX, Caldera, EFI Fiery, or similar platforms.
  • Working knowledge of ICC color management and color calibration.
  • Ability to troubleshoot print quality issues and perform routine equipment maintenance.
  • Strong organizational, scheduling, and production planning skills.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with production scheduling and ERP/MIS systems preferred. Physical and Work Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds safely.
  • Ability to safely handle large-format rigid and flexible materials.
  • Ability to work safely around UV printers, moving machinery, forklifts, and material handling equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally bend, kneel, and reach as required.
  • Willingness to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
