Finishing Machine Operator Job Description The Finishing Machine Operator works in the finishing department to clean, polish, deburr, and coat metal parts using precision equipment. This role combines mechanical aptitude, material finishing, and machine operation to ensure parts meet strict quality and coating specifications. You will prepare parts for coating, operate advanced PVD coating systems, and perform detailed inspections to maintain high production and quality standards in a manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Clean, polish, deburr, and coat metal finished parts in the finishing department. Clean, degrease, and prepare parts according to coating specifications and work instructions. Inspect incoming parts for defects or non-conformities prior to coating and report any issues. Properly rack, load, and unload parts in coating chambers to ensure optimal coating coverage. Handle parts carefully at all times to prevent contamination, scratching, or other damage. Operate ADLC and Chrome Nitride PVD coating systems in accordance with established procedures. Monitor coating parameters including temperature, pressure, gas flow rates, deposition time, and vacuum levels. Adjust process parameters as required within established guidelines to maintain coating quality and consistency. Maintain accurate production records and process documentation for each job and batch. Perform in-process and final inspections of coated parts to verify quality. Verify coating thickness, adhesion, finish, and overall quality against specifications and standards. Work safely in a machine shop environment, following all safety policies and procedures. Support general production activities such as grinding and deburring as needed. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and deadlines. Essential Skills Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work with machinery and tools. Experience with material finishing processes such as cleaning, polishing, grinding, and deburring. Hands-on machine operation experience in a manufacturing or production environment. Ability to operate precision machines and follow detailed work instructions. Basic math skills for measurements and process checks. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely. High school diploma or equivalent. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in general production, manufacturing, or general labor. Experience with metal finishing and grinding operations. Familiarity with machine shop practices and equipment. Comfort working with coating systems and monitoring technical process parameters. Mechanically inclined and able to learn new equipment and processes quickly. Attention to detail for quality inspection and documentation. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a machine shop environment that is not temperature controlled, so you should be comfortable working in varying temperatures. The company operates within 70,000 and 120,000 square foot facilities with approximately 250 people across multiple shifts, offering a busy and dynamic production setting. There are multiple openings on 1st shift (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) and 2nd shift (3:15 p.m. to 11:45 p.m.), with 2nd shift training initially conducted on 1st shift for a few weeks. You will work around production machinery, coating systems, and metal finishing equipment in a structured, safety-focused environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Wales, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
