Assembler Job Description This role involves assembling large commercial HVAC units in a modern manufacturing facility. You will work at a dedicated station on an assembly line, using hand and power tools to build and test components of large air conditioning units for commercial buildings. The position offers structured training, a clean and organized environment, and the opportunity to develop mechanical and technical skills over time. Responsibilities Perform repetitive mechanical assembly work at a designated station on the production line for large commercial AC units. Rotate between different assembly stations over time based on production needs, following instructions and training for each station. Use hand tools and power tools daily to assemble various components of HVAC units. Help assemble large AC units that are shipped to commercial buildings such as apartment complexes, hospitals, and other large facilities. Stand and move around the facility for a large portion of the workday to complete assigned tasks. Follow all safety protocols at all times and actively participate in safety training during the first week and on an ongoing basis. Perform tasks such as brazing, soldering, operating machines and presses, hanging and unhanging parts, and conducting quality checks once fully trained. Assist with multiple rounds of testing on each unit before it is prepared for shipment. Report any malfunctions, defects, or quality concerns promptly to the production supervisor. Climb into units as needed to properly assemble internal components, demonstrating comfort with working inside large equipment spaces. Learn to read and understand blueprints to ensure accurate assembly of components. Adapt to changes in work assignments and station duties based on customer and production requirements. Essential Skills At least 6 months of experience in a manufacturing environment. Physical ability to bend, twist, and move comfortably while working inside large AC units during assembly. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds repetitively (up to 44 times per shift), as demonstrated in previous work experience. Comfort with climbing into large units to complete assembly tasks, while working safely in those spaces. Willingness to learn new tasks and processes, with a positive attitude toward training and skill development. Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working in a hands-on, tool-based environment. Reliability in following safety procedures and production guidelines. Additional Skills & Qualifications One year or more of assembly experience in a manufacturing setting. Experience using hand tools and power tools in a production or trade environment. Basic electrical experience, including familiarity with components or conduit bending. Strong mechanical inclination and interest in mechanical systems. Ability to work effectively on an assembly line as part of a team. Willingness to be trained from the ground up on specific processes, tools, and equipment used in HVAC assembly. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.50 - $19.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
